Blackberry Passport Sim Card Reader Connector Tray Repair Service Fix Broken Pins Solution

Blackberry Passport Sim Card Reader Connector Tray Repair Service Fix Broken Pins Solution

Here is a basic guide to show you the process involved in replacing the sim card reader on the Blackberry Passport SQW100-1. Model

The picture below shows that the sim card reader connector is damaged if you look closely you can see that the pins are missing or damaged.

For testing purposes we are going to insert a known working sim card from another device into here and see what happens when the phone is powered on. It is now powered on and the phone shows SIM NOT DETECTED. This means that the phone is not recognising a sim card.

Now we are going to inspect the sim card reader connector module, it is soldered directly onto the motherboard as a surface mounted component. It will need removing using a hot air station and a new sim card reader module will need to be soldered onto the board. We have successfully removed the sim card reader module and this is what the motherboard looks like without the component.

We have now replaced the sim card reader connector module with a brand new genuine part from Blackberry. It has been micro-soldered onto the motherboard. All being well, the device should now work fine. It should detect that a sim card has been inserted into the phone.

As you can see, the device has detected the sim card and all functionality is back to normal. If you have a similar issue, we can fix this problem for you.
